In the past few months, we have welcomed three new members to our Internal Advisory Board from the University of Illinois campus community. We are incredibly happy to have Professor Steve Maren, Professor Jennifer Bernhard, and Dr. Glenn Fried join the board.
Professor Maren was recently brought on board as the new Director of the Beckman Institute of Advanced Science and Technology. He is a neuroscientist whose research focuses on emotional learning and memory. He spent several years working at Texas A&M, and before that the University of Michigan. He earned his PhD in neurobiology at the University of Southern California. Professor Maren started his academic journey as an undergrad at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and his appointment as the Director of Beckman marks a homecoming of sorts for him.
Professor Bernhard earned her PhD in electrical engineering at Duke University. She was appointed as Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering here at the University of Illinois earlier this year and has been named a Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering within ECE since 2016. She’s garnered numerous honors throughout her career for her research, teaching, and leadership.
Dr. Glenn Fried is the Director of Core Facilities at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology here at the U of I. In this role he ensures that the IGB is a top resource for biological microscopy and image analysis. He brings decades of experience in optics and microscopy.
In addition to welcoming our new board members, we at CLIMB would like to thank Professors Bruce Hajek, Nadya Mason, Cathy Murphy, and Gene Robinson for lending us their time and wisdom during their tenures on the Internal Advisory Board.
